Day 1: Rise early and canoe through Laguna Nichupte where white egrets and delicate herons nest in mangrove trees. Look for lizards in the tangled tree roots and blue crabs scuttling about on shore. Day 4: Board a wildly colorful bus to Xcaret, a one-of-a-kind eco parks. Talk to scarlet macaws in the aviary, let butterflies perch on your shoulders in the gardens, float down an underground river with tiny fish. Nap in a hammock under shady palms in the afternoon, or watch folkloric dancers.
Day 5: Take it easy on your last day, and explore Cancun's extraordinary natural beauty. Wander along a serene stretch of talcum-soft white sand and gather delicate shells. Swim with an easy stroke through silky waters; flip onto your back and watch clouds drift through the sky. Anglers should aim for the deep waters off shore, where sailfish, marlin, dorado (mahi-mahi) and huachinango (red snapper) fall for the right bait.
Day 5: Combine culture, history and extreme sports at the majestic Mayan ruins at Tulum. Visit the ruins and learn about the Mayan culture. Rappel into a cavern and zip line over the lush tropical jungle.
Romance the Sun
Day 1: Soar above the scenery in a parasail built for two, dangling midway beneath puffy white clouds and the sapphire sea. Wiggle into a double kayak and paddle soundlessly through secret lagoons. Day 3: Head down the coast to the magnificent Mayan ruins at Tulum. Take a guided tour and learn about the history of the Mayan people and the Mayan city of Tulum. Explore on your own and enjoy the beautiful beaches and turquoise blue Caribbean Sea below the Castle at Tulum.
Day 4: Venture into the jungle to Coba, where the 12-story-high Nohuch Mul pyramid rises above the treetops. Coba is thought to be one of the largest ancient Maya cities on the Yucatan peninsula. Linger at the souvenir stands and simple cafe near the entrance and practice your Spanish by chatting with the locals. They just might tell you about a secret spot filled with monkeys and birds.
Day 5: After a leisurely morning searching for ruins beside Cancun's golf courses and lagoons, visit Cancun’s Museo Maya and the San Miguelito archaeological site located at Km 16 on Kukulkan Boulevard in Cancun’s Hotel Zone.
